How to Use RSS to Market Your Website
Recently, there is much buzz about RSS, which stands for Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. Although it is nothing new, few people have heard about it until recently. So, what exactly is it and how does it help you?
Well, RSS is basically a very simple way to help you market your website without having to do much coding. Since the customers are the ones who have to add your content and information, it is NOT spam.
Using XML, or Extensible Markup Language, it allows the website owners to send out website content with only a few lines of code. For example, if your website has subscribers who need to get their new newsletter from you, you do not need to do any of the updates manually. Once it is set up, it will automatically grab the new content. At the same time, the subscribers have the option to limit what they do and do not receive from you. Similarly, you have the option to say what does or does not get sent out in real time.
As an added bonus, RSS is universal and runs on virtually every web browser in the market. It is also very cost effective since subscribers are directly to your website, which promotes your website and increases your ranking.
So how does RSS work and how can you offer this to your users? One of the easiest ways is to use a blog software. For example, if you use a blogger, such as Wordpress, the software includes a URL. Your users will copy this URL into their RSS/News Aggregators (also known as reader). Then, their reader can simply download and display your feeds on their website.
That is it! It is actually that simple.
